| Fishing and scuba diving aren't the only things to do in Key West. This small tropical island paradise is rich with history, which is evident in the numerous historic sites and museums. There are more than 3,000 historic structures located between White Street and the waterfront, many of which served as wharves, warehouses and ship-repair facilities in the early nineteenth century. Many of the lavishly designed Victorian style homes you will see were created by and for the island's most affluent tradesman, sea captains, writers, artists and politicians. Today, several of these beautiful homes also serve as distinctive museums offering a looking into Key West's past. Guided tours are available at most museums and historic sites.
